Answers
DTG printing machines can print fine water-based ink directly on to t-shirts or sweats using the same inkjet technology as your average office printer. This means there are no limitations on how many colors you can print along without any set-up fees and a very quick turnaround of print jobs. DTG might be the best cost effective option for small to medium runs if you have a few designs.
How is the result and quality?
Direct to garment (DTG) digital printing technique uses state of the art technology to print images directly to the garment. The process involves taking a high-resolution image and printing the image directly onto the Garment creating a soft, vibrant, and breathable image feel that feels soft to touch.
Can you print on a dark or coloured T-shirt / can you print white ink?
Yes, We can print on any T-shirt colour. However to print on dark garment we will need to apply white layer based ink. The result will be a bit thicker and the colour layer will be a bit glossy.
The DTG limitations
- We can print up to 30cm x 48 cm.
- Artwork cannot be print on the side seams or inside e.g label information inside the back collar. However we can do this with our screen print partner.
- Printing on black or where white ink needed might be suitable only 1 side printing.
- We cannot print metallic, gold print and fluoro colour.
What is the different with screen print?
DTG prints inkjet directly to the garment. It is cleaner, sharp and softer than a screen print. DTG takes the digital file for full colour CMYK print.
There are no tools such as screen or film
Screen print is a printing technique that uses a woven mesh to support an ink-blocking stencil. The attached stencil forms open areas of mesh that transfer ink as a sharp-edged image onto a substrate. A roller or squeegee is moved across the screen stencil, forcing or pumping ink past the threads of the woven mesh in the open areas.
Screen print will need a setup for the screen and the film. Screen print setup will be based per color. That means if you have 2 colors, there are 2 screen needed for the print. However Screen print some time is still cost efficient for a large runs, or special textured inks.
